Psyllium Applications Across Industries
Where Plantago ovata fibre fits in your product line, from clinical-grade laxatives and capsule supplements to gluten-free baking, beverage fortification, and personal-care formulations. Each use case below pairs with our recommended grade and mesh.
Eight Industries: One Raw Material
Psyllium husk is one of the most versatile soluble-fibre ingredients in the global ingredient market. The mesh and purity you order will depend on which of these production lines you’re feeding.

Dietary Supplements
Capsule fill, tablet binder, single-serve fibre sachets, and stick packs. Psyllium is the most widely formulated soluble-fibre supplement worldwide thanks to its established cholesterol-, blood-sugar- and digestion-related claim positions.

Pharmaceutical
OTC bulk-forming laxative monographs (USP / EP / BP / IP) and prescription fibre therapy. Used in adjunct formulations for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation, and post-surgical bowel management.

Gluten-Free Bakery
Replaces the structural role of gluten in breads, pizza bases, tortillas and pasta. Hydrates to form a viscous network that traps gas during proofing and improves crumb texture and shelf-life moisture retention.

Functional Beverages
Fibre-fortified ready-to-mix drinks, weight-management shakes, and gut-health tonics. Ultra-fine 200-mesh powder disperses cleanly with minimal grit, important for premium consumer brands.

Nutraceuticals & GLP-1 Companions
Psyllium’s viscosity and satiety profile make it a natural pairing for the new generation of metabolic-health supplements. Increasingly bundled into GLP-1 companion stacks alongside protein and electrolyte blends.

Cosmetics & Personal Care
Natural thickener and film-former in face masks, hair gels, and exfoliating cleansers. Psyllium’s mucilage swells in water to form a stable, low-irritancy gel that suits “clean-label” cosmetic positioning.

Food Manufacturing
Fibre-enriched cereals, snack bars, low-calorie processed foods, ice-cream stabilisation, and meat-analogue binding. Adds satiety and reduced-calorie label benefits without changing flavour profile.

Pet Food & Animal Feed
Soluble-fibre supplementation in companion-animal diets for digestive support and hairball management. In livestock, used as a feed bulking agent and binder for pellet integrity.

Practical Tips for Your Production Line
Hydration Speed
Finer mesh (200) hydrates fastest and forms a smoother gel, preferred for instant beverages. Coarser mesh (40-60) hydrates slowly, giving more textural integrity in baked goods.
Water-Binding Capacity
Plan for 8-10× water uptake by weight at 99% purity. In bakery applications, increase formula water by 6-10% for every 1% psyllium added to maintain dough workability.
Compatibility
Stable across pH 3-10 and standard processing temperatures up to 90 °C. Compatible with most stabilisers, hydrocolloids, sweeteners, and proteins. Avoid extreme alkaline conditions.
Shelf-Life
Standard shelf-life is 24 months in original sealed packaging at < 25 °C and < 65% RH. Re-validate moisture and microbial status if humid storage exposure is suspected.
